La galerie reçoit dans ses murs la première exposition bruxelloise du duo Tis Kaoru Zamler-Carhart
& Vitaly Zamler. Artistes inclassables travaillant à quatre mains, leur oeuvre est un mille-feuille photographique de couleurs, de formes, de matériaux et de mises en scène : collage, montage, théâtre d’objets et d’éclairages, impression sur combinaisons de plongée, feutrines, velours, papiers métalliques, cadres Napoléon, lapins-méduses, sangliers haut gradés, marionnettes sanguinaires, planches entre la bande dessinée et le roman-photo… Leur oeuvre séduit tant pour son imagination inépuisable que pour sa finesse technique et esthétique.

Tis & Vitaly sont un duo artistique inclassable d’un parent trans non-binaire franco-américain et d’un fils russo-polonais, l’un designer, compositeur et ancien avocat, l’autre urbaniste, géographe et ancien agent immobilier. Ensemble, ils sont à la fois archéologues, photographes, plasticiens et scénographes. Leur oeuvre est à l’image de la profondeur affective d’une collaboration parent-enfant, tantôt intime, tantôt sarcastique, joyeuse ou explosive, et enrichie d’autant par le bouillonnement d’une famille d’artistes-chercheurs franco-américano-russo-polono-belges qui partagent leur temps entre leurs studios bruxellois et new-yorkais et leur travail d’archéologues de terrain dans le monde entier.

Galerie Mhaata welcomes the Brussels debut exhibit of the artist duo Tis Kaoru Zamler-Carhart & Vitaly Zamler. Their work straddles genres and definitions, a photographic labyrinth of colors, shapes, materials, and techniques: collage, montage, lighting, staged objects, printing on diving suits, felt, velvet, metallic papers, Napoleon frames, medusa bunnies, high-ranking boars, bloodthirsty puppets, cartoon storyboards that evoke photo novels… Tis & Vitaly design and make all their pieces together, and the result is as dazzling for its boundless imagination as for its technical sophistication.

Tis & Vitaly also straddle categories as people, an inseparable artist duo of a trans nonbinary French-American parent and a Russian-Polish son, one a designer, composer, and former lawyer, the other an urbanist, geographer, and former realtor. Together they are at once archeologists, photographers, visual artists, and scenographers, splitting their time between their Brussels and New York studios and their archeological fieldwork all over the world. Their work also reflects the emotional depth of a parent-child collaboration, in turn intimate, sarcastic, joyful or explosive, and steeped in the dynamic environment of a French-American-Russian-Polish-Belgian artistic-academic family.
